Bicycles and Pedestrians

The City works hard to encourage bicycling in our community for transportation, recreation, and exercise. Mayor Dyer issues a Proclamation to celebrate May as Bike Month every year for Bike Month and Bike to Work Week as well as hosting Bike to Work Day. Each year has shown an increase in attendance, and 2008 was the largest turnout to date when over 100 commuters congregated in College Park to complete the short trip to City Hall.

In 2007 the Florida Planning and Zoning Association purchased 70 bike racks for the downtown core and Mayor Dyer helped to install them at several locations.

Traffic Message BoardThe Transportation Department places variable traffic message boards throughout the City to remind cyclists and motorists to Share the Road ; as well as, to be aware of one another and Get Active Orlando, the City’s advisory committee for Active Living, organizes a “Pedal for Pride” ride with the Kidz and Teenz of Parramore. Safety training, helmets, bikes, lights, and locks are collected from various partners in the community to provide education and safe bicycles for the children to ride. Get Active also provides bicycles for adults through the Orange County Health Department throughout the year.
