City Hiring
Process
Online applications for
open positions are accepted 24/7 until midnight on the closing date for
the position.
Paper applications
for open positions are accepted during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday. If you complete a paper application, you will have to send
us an application for each position. Paper applications and resumes are
accepted if delivered by 5:00 p.m. or postmarked no later than midnight on
the closing date for the position. Applications may be faxed to
(407)246-2019 or mailed to:
City of Orlando Employment
400 South Orange Avenue
P.O. Box 4990
Orlando, FL 32802-4990
Phone: 407-246-2235
A separate paper application must be submitted for each position. Each
application or resume must include the position title and recruitment
number of the position for which you are applying. Applications without a
recruitment number identified will not be considered for City vacancies.
If the posting indicates a required test, you must take the test at the
City Hall Human Resources Office before the closing date. It is the
applicant's responsibility (both City employees and outside applicants)
to provide all of the necessary information to ensure that minimum
qualifications are met. Click the following
link: clerical test for more information. Persons with a disability
requiring reasonable accommodations should call (407) 246-2235 to schedule
tests.
Positions in "Open until Filled" status may be closed at any time by the
hiring department without prior notice. Applications are screened by Human
Resources and the applications of those qualified are sent to the hiring
division for review. The hiring manager will contact applicants he/she
chooses for an interview by phone. If you are not selected for an
interview, you will be notified by mail after a selection has been made.
Some positions take considerable time to fill so you may not hear from us
for some time.
If you are selected for a position, you will be notified by phone. At that
time you will be given an appointment for a
pre-employment physical
which includes drug screening. Job offers are contingent upon passing the
physical and background check. Final candidates for all Police Department
positions, fire dispatch positions, security officers, recreation facility
supervisors, cash-handling, and other positions determined by the City of
Orlando will be polygraphed.
Equal
Opportunity Employer
The City of Orlando community has a population which is richly diverse.
The effective provision of governmental services within such a diverse
community requires the services of an equally diverse employee
population.
The City of Orlando is, therefore, committed to providing an employee
workforce which, in all positions and at all levels, fairly reflects the
community it serves. The City encourages all segments of its population
to become involved with, and seek employment in, City government.
To achieve this goal, it is the policy of the City of Orlando, binding
on all officials and employees, to offer equal employment opportunity to
all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin,
age, sexual orientation, or disability.
The City will further take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that
all employment practices, including, but not limited to, compensation,
benefits, layoffs, promotions, training, terminations, hiring, and
recruitment, are administered in a manner that provides full and fair
opportunity to all persons.
Veteran's Preference
Veteran's preference is given per State Statute on initial hire.
Documentation (DD214 or VA Letter of Disability) must be included with the
application form. Further details and inquiries concerning veteran's
preference should be directed to (407) 246-2235.
