November 2009

Commissioner Ortiz participated during Teach-In Day
at Liberty Middle School

Commissioner Tony Ortiz was invited by Dr. Judith Cancel from Liberty Middle School to participate during Teach-In Day on November 18, 2009 in celebration of the American Education Week.

 

Clean Up Orlando Event at the Engelwood Park Neighborhood

On Saturday, November 14, 2009 Commissioner Ortiz along with 100 volunteers participated during a Clean Up Orlando event in the Engelwood Park Neighborhood.

Here are the event details:

100 volunteers from the Engelwood Neighborhood, students from Stonewall Jackson Middle School, Colonial High School Girls Basketball Team, boys from the Engelwood Neighborhood Center Reality Check Mentoring Program, Central FL Christian Academy, and the State Juvenile System

Removed 23 bags of litter, 6 shopping carts, and a bicycle (totaling about 700 pounds) from Stonewall Jackson Rd around to La Costa Drive to Semoran and from the Center's retention pond

Removed old and damaged No Dumping (stormdrain) signs from over 30 inlets and replaced with new

Removed leaves and grass clippings from edging along right of ways from neighborhood streets

           Removed leaves and litter from the Center's parking lot

Commissioner Tony Ortiz sponsored Cafe Latino - Despierta Health Fair   Dover Shores Community Center - Saturday, October 17, 2009

More than 200 people attended this year's Cafe Latino Despierta Health Fair in celebration of the National Latino AIDS Day.

 

Commissioner Tony Ortiz Hosted Senator Gary Siplin's Town Hall Meeting Engelwood Community Center - Thursday, October 15, 2009

Senator Siplin facilitated a Town Hall Meeting with the Department of Children and Families for the community.

Azalea Park Little League Inauguration Event

Commissioner Ortiz had the honor of throwing the first ball during the Azalea Park Little League Season Inauguration event on Friday, September 18, 2009.  Baseball is Commissioner Ortiz's favorite sport and attending this event reminded him of his early years, when he used to play baseball in Puerto Rico.

 

Hispanic Heritage Month Kick Off Event at City Hall

The City of Orlando celebrated it's Third Hispanic Heritage Month Kick Off Event on Friday, September 18, 2009.  More than 200 people attended this event which was celebrated in the City Hall Rotunda.

National Night Out Against Crime

Commissioner Tony Ortiz attended parties at five District 2 neighborhoods who gathered together to celebrate the National Night Out Against Crime.  He visited Del Rey Condominiums, Pacifico Place Apartments, Dover Shores East, Dover Manor and Lake Barton Village neighborhoods.

June 2009

Orlando Prepares was held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Engelwood Neighborhood Center and it was a huge success.  Over 400 people attended the Emergency Preparedness Fair and the Health & Information Fair.

 

May 2009

On May 8, 2009 in celebration of Older American's Month, Commissioner Ortiz attended an event with Congressman Alan Grayson at the Engelwood Community Center dedicated to their Seniors' Program.  More than 60 seniors took part in this celebration that included, music, dancing, food and a chance to speak and take pictures with Commissioner Ortiz and Congressman Grayson.
