Patty Sheehan
Commissioner Patty Sheehan was first elected to the Orlando City
Council in April 2000. She was re-elected in March 2004
with 54.4% support in a four-person race. In 2008,
Commissioner Sheehan was automatically re-elected to her third,
four-year term when no candidate filed to run against her.
Commissioner Sheehan attended the University of
Central Florida and earned her BA in Art. She
worked full-time at a construction company to pay
for her education. A former administrator with the Florida
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Commissioner
Sheehan serves her constituents full-time. She has been a
Central Florida resident for 36 years, and has lived in her
quaint, Colonialtown bungalow for 15 years.
Commissioner Sheehan’s efforts have been recognized by many
organizations. For two consecutive years, she was recognized by
the State of Florida’s Davis Productivity Award for measurably
increasing performance and state services to Florida taxpayers.
She was the District 4 Volunteer of the Year, Colonialtown
Volunteer of the Year and Block Captain of the Year for District
4 Neighborhood Watch and also served as President of the
Colonialtown North Neighborhood Association. She is a volunteer
for Green-Up Orlando and Keep Orlando Beautiful. She has been
recognized numerous times in polls, such as Orlando Weekly
and Orlando Magazine, as one of Orlando’s Best Local
Politicians. Additionally, she received the Spectrum Awards for
Community Activism, Role Model and Lifetime Achievement.
Patty Sheehan has served her community through many
organizations including The Nominating Committee and The Public
Safety Advisory Committee of the National League of Cities, The
Ripple Effect, MetroPlan, Seniors First, Orlando NOW, Central
Floridians Against Discrimination, Joy Metropolitan Community
Church and the Seminole County School’s Dividends Program. She
is the founder and Chairperson for the Wheels for Kids program,
which provides bicycles to needy elementary and middle school
students living in Reeves Terrace public housing. She currently
serves as the City of Orlando's representative on the East Central Florida
Regional Planning Council.
Commissioner Sheehan is well known for her advocacy of
pedestrian safety, neighborhoods and historic preservation and a
thriving downtown.
Patty Sheehan’s hobbies include gardening, photography, home
improvement, painting and tooling around Orlando on her Vespa.
She shares her home with her partner, Jocelynn, their Chinese
Crested dog, Maxine, and Lui, their cat, as well as an
assortment of tropical fish.
Chase Smith
Chase Smith is the Aide to Commissioner Patty Sheehan. He has
worked for the commissioner and the District 4 office since February
16, 2004. Chase is a 4th generation Floridian and was born and
raised in Wauchula, Florida and came to Commissioner Sheehan's
office with extensive knowledge and experience in municipal
government. He was a city commissioner in the City of Wauchula
in Hardee County for twelve years, having been elected in 1992 when
he was 20. Chase also served in various leadership capacities,
while he was an elected official, as a
member of the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Cities,
Ridge League of Cities (Chase served as President from 2000-2001),
Central Florida Regional Planning Council and the Hardee County
Family YMCA.
Additionally, Chase was the administrator of two
medical practices in Polk County for six years before coming to
Orlando to work for Commissioner Sheehan. He is currently
enrolled at Barry University furthering his education and
studying Public Administration. Chase thoroughly enjoys
his job and working for Commissioner Sheehan and shares her
commitment to prompt and courteous customer and public service to her
constituents in District 4.
Officer Jim Young
Officer Jim Young has been the
Orlando Police Liaison Officer to Commissioner Sheehan and
District 4 since 2006. Officer Young served 4 years in the
Air Force, working in Law Enforcement, served 6½ years with the
City of Pinellas Park Police Department, in various units
including patrol, youth division, criminal investigations,
undercover vice & narcotics, SWAT, and Chief's staff. He has
been with the Orlando Police Department since 1997 and has
worked in Patrol, OPD's training unit, the Motors (motorcycle)
Unit, Downtown Bikes, Traffic Enforcement, Crisis Negotiation
Team, frequently serves as Public Information Officer when the PIO is unavailable and is currently in the Crime Prevention Unit
as the liaison for District 4.
Officer Young has been the recipient of numerous
awards and commendations and earned an Honors Graduate Degree in
Criminology from St. Leo University. He holds numerous
certifications, including the designations of Crime Prevention
Practitioner and CPTED practitioner. He serves on many
committees, as well as volunteers with several organizations.
Officer Young also serves as the vice president of the Lake Como
Neighborhood Association.
