PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Events Center project includes a multi-purpose facility to host concerts, various sports and other entertainment and community events. It will be comparable in size, scope and quality to first-class events centers recently constructed in Charlotte, Indianapolis, Memphis and San Antonio, including:

– Minimum 750,000 square feet
– Approximately 18,500 seats and at least 40 suites
– Ice hockey, basketball, arena football, indoor soccer, concerts and conventions
– Restaurants, concessions, locker rooms, dressing rooms, ticket facilities and retail spaces

The new Events Center will replace the existing Amway Arena in Downtown Orlando as the new home of the NBA Orlando Magic, arena football Orlando Predators and potentially, a hockey team. The site is located on the south side of West Church Street, immediately west of Interstate 4 in the downtown Orlando entertainment core.
Development of the Events Center will serve as a catalyst for redevelopment in the area and contribute to a planned arts, entertainment and cultural corridor along Church Street from the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium to the Performing Arts Center.  Estimated design and construction cost for the Events Center is $380 million, plus an additional $60 million in parking, roads and site improvement costs (excluding land acquisition). The Orlando Magic, with the City’s oversight, is responsible for leading the design and construction effort for this facility. The City is responsible for land acquisition, site preparation, parking, road/utility improvements. Events Center design is expected to take 12 months and construction about 25 months for a target opening in September, 2010.
