MAYOR DYER TO CELEBRATE CITIZEN CORPS ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
ORLANDO, FL (August 15, 2003) – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando Police Department Chief Michael McCoy and Orlando Fire Department Chief Robert Bowman will recognize Citizen Corps participants this Tuesday, August 19, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Annual Orlando Citizen Corps recognition event at the Leu Gardens Camellia Room. More than 1,000 citizens have been trained in one or more of Orlando Citizen Corps training courses. Recently, the Federal Emergency Management Administration recognized this Council as one of the top ten, out of more than 700 Citizen Corps councils in the nation. Orlando Citizen Corps is a network of training courses that offers citizens an opportunity to take a more active role in crime prevention, emergency preparedness and disaster response. Training courses include: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Senior CERT, Citizen Fire Academy, Citizens for Neighborhood Watch, Citizen Police Academy and the Citizen Observer Program.
