ORLANDO, FL (October 8, 2003) -- Although Orlando is not directly located on the coastal shoreline, much of the marine debris is generated from areas many miles away. In fact, most of the debris found during the 2002 Florida Coastal Cleanup was attributed to land based sources such as storm drain runoff, illegal dumping and general littering. Debris can have a significant negative impact on marinas, recreational fishing and tourism and poses threats to both people and wildlife.

Volunteers should meet at any one of the above lake locations and expect to participate from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. For more information, please call Jane Ferry at 407-246-2752.
