2003 FLORIDA COASTAL CLEANUP IN ORLANDO TO BE HELD OCTOBER 11
Volunteers needed to make annual cleanup the most successful yet – each participant will receive a free t-shirt WHO: Orlando residents and volunteers WHAT: The 18th Annual International Coastal Cleanup -- the world’s largest one-day volunteer effort to help the marine environment. WHEN: Saturday, October 11, 2003 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. WHERE: 6 lake locations in Orlando: · Lake Dot · Lake Ivanhoe – Gaston Edwards Park · Lake Lorna Doone · Lake Lucerne · Lake Underhill · Park Lake ORLANDO, FL (October 8, 2003) -- Although Orlando is not directly located on the coastal shoreline, much of the marine debris is generated from areas many miles away. In fact, most of the debris found during the 2002 Florida Coastal Cleanup was attributed to land based sources such as storm drain runoff, illegal dumping and general littering. Debris can have a significant negative impact on marinas, recreational fishing and tourism and poses threats to both people and wildlife. Volunteers should meet at any one of the above lake locations and expect to participate from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. For more information, please call Jane Ferry at 407-246-2752.
