MAYOR TO SET TREE ON FIRE DURING HOLIDAY SAFETY DEMONSTRATION

ORLANDO, FL (December 4, 2003) -- Mayor Buddy Dyer Friday will join firefighters at Orlando Fire Department Fire Station #1 in setting a tree on fire to demonstrate the dangers of a dry Christmas tree.

Mayor Dyer wants to alert citizens to the fire dangers during the holiday season and provide for them holiday safety precautions to stop tragic house fires in the City. Last year, the Orlando Fire Department responded to 399 house fires, and it reports that the holiday season is the most dangerous time due to Christmas decorations and home heating elements.

After the demonstration, Mayor Dyer will provide holiday safety tips.
