DOWNTOWN ORLANDO SKYLINE GETS A QUICK
CHANGE
Downtown Developers Come Together With
Community Redevelopment Agency to Benefit Citizens and Visitors
of the City Beautiful
ORLANDO, FL (December 8, 2005) -- With more
than $2 billion worth of investment in Downtown Orlando, the next several years
will be a unique time for the City Beautiful as its scenic skyline will grow
with the addition of new high-rise residential towers and modern, corporate
headquarter buildings.
This week, one fixture on the current skyline will disappear thanks to the
assistance of local developers and the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency.
“In keeping with the City’s reputation as the City Beautiful,
AT& T has agreed to have the microwave tower on top of their building removed,”
said Frank Billingsley, Executive Director of Community Redevelopment Agency.
“The microwave tower has been providing a service to the community since its
installation during the 1950s and has been a fixture on the downtown skyline. “
“We’re happy to be a part of the City’s beautification plan,” said Richard
Kaleta, AT&Ts director of Network Field Services. “The City of Orlando has been
important to our company for many, many years.”
The City of Orlando’s Community Redevelopment Agency was successful in raising
the required sum of $75,000 for the tower’s removal through a partnership with
the Dynetech Corporation (recently announced corporate headquarters tower
adjacent to the AT&T building) and Churchill Development Group (the developer of
The VUE at Lake Eola).
“With all of the booming activity our City Center is experiencing, Dynetech is
committed to helping shape the look and feel of Orlando as it develops into a
prominent diversified center for high value, high wage economic growth” said
Laurence J. Pino, CEO of Dynetech Corporation.
“We are happy to help enhance the downtown community”, said Mike Murray,
Principal of Churchill Development Group. “We are here to build more than a
luxury high-rise. We’re here to build a long-lasting urban community. We want to
be a community partner and help beautify the City Beautiful.”
Work is scheduled to begin today, December 8, 2005. Wall Street, between
Magnolia and Rosalind will be closed for the duration.
