This report identifies and describes the components of the public realm by referencing examples from Orlando and across the United States. It describes Orlando’s current efforts to enhance its public realm
through Smart Growth initiatives and identifies future opportunities to further enhance our quality of place, primarily through the creation of Public Places and Green Network connections.

The public realm supports neighborhood life and its celebrations by providing needed greenspace, climate relief, wildlife habitat, trees, light, air, and visual relief, as well as opportunities of social and recreational activity. The challenge is to connect all of these amenities together, and thereby connect neighborhoods, families and individuals. By enhancing the public realm and creating meaningful Public
Places and Green Network connections, we can also improve the quality of our City and our individual neighborhoods.
