The
City of Orlando has produced the popular Historic
Preservation Board Calendar since 1991 and each is an
exceptional depiction of Orlando's treasured historic
resources. The photos in each calendar are selected from
submissions from the community as part of a photo
competition. The calendar themes are chosen every year by
the Historic Preservation Board. To see the calendar photos

Historic Preservation Board Calendar Photographic
Competition
This
year’s competition showcased Orlando’s two historic
train stations:
-
The older station, at 76 West Church Street,
was built in 1889 and opened on January 14, 1890. The brick
station is designed in the late Victorian style. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places, is an Orlando Historic Landmark and an important
part of the Downtown Historic District.
-
The newer station was built at 1400 Sligh
Boulevard and is designed in the Spanish Colonial- Mission
Revival style which was popular during that time period. The
station was constructed in 1926 and opened on January 11, 1927
with more than 6,000 people attending the ceremonies.
The building currently houses the Amtrak Station and is one
of the busiest rail stations in the south. The station was
listed as an Orlando Historic Landmark in 1978.
The
competition for the 2010 calendar resulted in over 140
photos submitted. The images submitted were of very high
quality and the winning 13 images were a difficult decision.
