Landscape Uses
Live Oak is the ultimate southern shade tree.  It is a fast growing, yet long lived tree.  This tree is often adorned with Spanish moss, resurrection fern and other epiphytes.

Fun Facts
Live oak wood is very hard and strong.  During the hey-day of wooden sailing ships, The U.S. bought large tracts of live oak for building its ships.  An added advantage of having a live oak tree in the yard are the acorns.  They are edible and can be made into flour for acorn burgers and used to make acorn candy.
