Orlando Police Department
Message From The Chief

Chief Val Demings

On behalf of the over 1,000 dedicated employees of the Orlando Police Department, thank you for taking the time to visit our website. The Orlando Police Department stands ready to serve our citizens and visitors alike with both respect and dignity.

Located in the very heart of Central Florida, Orlando is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and a great place to live. With a growing population of over 218,000 and a service population of 320,000, the City of Orlando is currently experiencing a renaissance of the Downtown area and nearby Parramore neighborhood. Our Airport Patrol Division, which consists of over 75 sworn officers, oversees the influx of 36.4 million visitors each year. In addition, Orlando has become a burgeoning haven for technology development and the Lake Nona area of the City will soon be home to the University of Central Florida Medical School, a newly approved Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and the Burnham Institute.

As Chief of Police and an Orlando native, I am truly excited by the positive changes that are happening right now in our city. I am equally excited by the challenges we will face as a community. The citizens in our community are always invited to participate in our efforts to keep Orlando safe.

The Orlando Police Department is proud of its award winning, Neighborhood Watch Program, which has earned high honors for their outstanding efforts in “National Night Out.” We are also proud of our Citizen’s Observer Program, which involves numerous citizen volunteers equipped with police radios patrolling our neighborhoods in specially marked cars. Although our Citizen Observers take no law enforcement action, they have proven to be a valuable asset in spotting suspicious activity and various code violations.

The Orlando Police Department is fully accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, and offers a great opportunity to anyone seeking a career in law enforcement including: Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Motors, Mounted, K-9, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Honor Guard, Training, Community Relations, Professional Standards, Crime Scene Investigations (CSI), and so much more!

In closing, the Orlando Police Department is one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the country. Mayor Dyer and our City Council have made public safety a top priority. We rely on their support and our citizens for valuable direction and assistance. We look forward to serving you with courage, pride and commitment. Thank you again for taking the time to visit us at the Orlando Police Department.
