NATURE OF WORK:
Performs skilled work in emergency fire communications. Employees assigned to this classification receive, screen, and dispatch major emergency calls for fire, emergency medical services, and aircraft emergencies; provide limited medical advice; and prepare various reports.
WORK LOCATION: Operations Center, 110 Andes Avenue, Orlando
WORK SCHEDULE consists of rotating shifts including midnights, most weekends, and most holidays. May be required to work additional hours with little or no notice based on operational needs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma plus one year experience with computers and/or communications systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass a data-entry test. May be required to pass practical exam to measure multitasking skills. Must pass police background check, which includes a polygraph examination. Must meet strict drug-free standard.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certificate within six months of employment and maintain while employed. All employees required to complete 24 CDE's (Continuing Dispatch Education) every two years. Employees holding EMT certifications required to complete 32-hour EMT refresher every two years.
LONG-TERM COMMITMENT:
New employees make a two-year commitment to the Fire Department and are required to sign a contract promising to reimburse the cost of training if they quit before two years are completed.
