Mayor's Message

Dear Friend,

At the beginning of this month, the Orlando Police Department kick-started “Operation Delta.” This multi-phased operation took some of our best officers and put them in the worst areas for drug sales and violent crime.

Our aim was to attack street level drug operations, reducing the associated violent crime and increasing the quality of life for residents in Parramore. In less than a month, Operation Delta has resulted in 234 arrests. More than 100 are felony arrests, and the majority of those arrested have long criminal records.

We wanted to send a message to the criminals: get lost or get sent to jail. Above all, we wanted to do something that would give the good people in the Parramore neighborhood a stronger sense of safety. With Operation Delta, we wanted to change the game.

I also want to point out that while these arrests were made in Parramore, a majority of those suspects are not living in the Parramore neighborhood. That means, in many instances, people are coming into the neighborhood to engage in illegal activity. It’s proof that we have a unique opportunity for the police to strengthen their partnership with this community and stand up as one and tell the criminals, no more.

I’m proud of the brave men and women of OPD for their efforts in Operation Delta and their commitment to keeping people safe every single day. Public safety remains my number one priority, and programs like Operation Delta are changing our city for the better.

Sincerely,

Buddy Dyer
Mayor
