Mayor's
Message |
|
Dear Friend,
This Saturday, February 23, I invite you to
experience the ninth annual Orlando Wetlands
Park Festival. This yearly event features nature
and photography tours, Indian dancing,
entertainment, exhibits and activities for
children.
The Orlando Wetlands Park is a wonderful
wilderness area with bike and hiking trails,
abundant birds and beautiful wetlands. What many
visitors don’t realize is that it is also one of
the City’s largest working facilities. As the
world’s first large scale, constructed wetland
treatment system, it is designed to remove
nutrients from reclaimed water. The
benefit of this treatment facility includes
protecting our water resources by reducing
potentially harmful nutrients in a safe, natural
and effective method. At the same time, it
creates a home for numerous native animals,
water foul and migratory birds.
The Orlando Wetlands Park is part of the City’s
Green Works Orlando Initiative. This bold agenda
aims to protect our natural resources,
encourages environmentally-friendly lifestyles
and business practices and engages Central
Florida’s residents and businesses in the effort
to “go green.”
What better way to get inspired to “go green”
than to experience nature first-hand at the
Orlando Wetlands Park Festival. For directions
to the park and more information on Saturday’s
event, see the
events page at the end of City News.
Sincerely,

Buddy Dyer
Mayor
